While some success stories feel like far-fetched dreams, others are relatable. Author and serial entrepreneur,Austin Zulauf, has had a remarkable life, which makes his story not only relatable but also inspiring. From a broken family and gang involvement to success in corporate America and then the 2008 recession that cost him everything he worked for, Austin knows what it feels like to be on top of the world one day and at rock bottom the next. We sat down with Austin, who told us how he believes anyone can rebuild their lives no matter how many times they fail because he has done it enough to know how.
Austin, what is your background, and how did you get started?
I’m a 9th-grade dropout who grew up on a farm, but I moved to the small city of Bowling Green, KY, when I was 12. I fell in with the wrong crowd, and after seeing many friends gunned down or imprisoned, I was determined to rebuild my life. I got a job with Combined Insurance and started working my way up the corporate ladder. Through hard work and dedication, I began to excel and went on to achieve several milestones at this company.
You’re now a home business icon—how did you change paths?
I’ve changed paths a few times to end up where I am now. After the recession,I wound up in the factories and became homeless. Broke and out of options, I unsuccessfully spent several months trying to rebuild my life. After a couple of years, I discovered the network marketing profession and started my career as a network marketer in 2010. However, the initial challenge was to get the money to start. Even though this was a challenge, I knew life would get worse if I did not act, so I sold everything I had, took my entire paycheck from my factory job, and dove right into this new career.
What was your next step after banking on yourself?
I went on to become the #1 earner of 3 separate companies, earning over $7 million. This move also made me one of the most sought-after business coaches, as I’d helped retire over 600 families from their careers with this business model. Looking back, I am glad I banked on myself because I am now building the biggest business of my life and amplifying my impact.
Why did you start your own business?
I have always been a dreamer and knew there had to be more possibilities than what I had just been conditioned to do with my life. I knew I wanted to leave a mark and positively impact others, so I did my research and kept being pulled toward the digital nomad and laptop lifestyle.
What have your previous success and life challenges taught you?
Over the years,I have learned several lessons about life, loss, and starting over again. Having a purpose and working toward it no matter what comes along is the first step to success. The second is to be around people who have high worth and are happy to see you thrive.
What’s the best tool you’ve learned over your years in business?
Developing a sense of self-worth is the best thing you can do. People are inherently self-seeking, so it is better to focus on yourself to find happiness. We teach people how to treat us. I also believe that having a healthy mind and body is important to live a fulfilling life. You get so much more out of life in so many ways when you are truly in the moment.
Austin Zulauf wants to continue helping people by coaching them to build successful businesses that will set them free from the 9 to 5 life. He also plans to scale up his businesses further to become a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs and inspire them to become unstoppable.
