Baldur's Gate 3 Is Coming To Xbox This Year, But No Split-Screen On Series S - GameSpot

Baldur’s Gate 3 will, in fact, come to Xbox later this year, developer Larian has confirmed. However, the Series S edition won’t be up to par with the Series X version. Studio boss Swen Vincke said on X/Twitter that Larian has “found a solution” to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players later this year.

Vincke said he met with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. Together, they found this solution, and it seems to be dropping split-screen support on Series S, at least at launch. Vincke said finding a way to get Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox was “something we’ve been working towards for quite some time.”

The Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will have “all improvements” from the PC edition made through its various updates so far, as well as split-screen co-op for Series X. However, the Series S edition will not support split-screen co-op. The Series S version will have cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series X|S.

When Baldur’s Gate 3 was announced for console, it was only confirmed for PlayStation 5. Larian later stated that issues with Xbox Series S were to blame for the lack of an Xbox edition. Larian said it wanted to have Baldur’s Gate 3 running to its quality standard across Series S and Series X, and the Series S edition was holding things back.

Spencer recently told Eurogamer that people buying the Xbox Series S should not expect all the features and systems that the same game on Series X might have.

“There are features that ship on X today that do not ship on S, even from our own games, like ray-tracing that works on X, it’s not on S in certain games. So for an S customer, they spent roughly half what the X customer bought, they understand that it’s not going to run the same way,” he said.

Super happy to confirm that after meeting @XboxP3 yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on PC earlier this month and became a quick success, reaching more than 875,000 peak concurrent players to rise up the Steam charts. Over its first weekend, time spent playing Baldur’s Gate 3 made up a quarter of total playtime across Steam.

Baldur’s Gate 3 releases on PlayStation on September 6. A release date for the Xbox edition has not been announced.
