Ohio Students Urged to Apply for Tech Internships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – College students interested in technology are urged to apply for a tech internship.

The Ohio Department of Development is accepting student applications for the Diversity & Inclusion Technology Internship Program, an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience while contributing to cutting-edge technology companies. The program offers paid internships to current college students with a variety of backgrounds and majors.

“The Diversity & Inclusion Technology Internship Program is a fantastic initiative that bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Department of Development. “This is not just an internship; it’s an opportunity to shape your career trajectory and gain exposure to innovative career paths and companies.”

Through 12 rounds of the program, 860 interns have been hired. Of those, 81% have been Black, Asian, Hispanic, other ethnicities and white females, a news release states.

The program offers paid internships, starting at $15 per hour. Non-Ohio residents attending school in the state are encouraged to apply. Ohio residents attending college anywhere in the United States are also eligible.

Intern experience encompasses all areas of study, ranging from marketing and design to engineering, mathematics and software development. Interns have helped companies create mobile apps and websites, develop social media platforms, conduct market research, develop new augmented reality and virtual reality technologies, implement new software to modernize operations and accounting and enhance cybersecurity.

Internships for this round can occur between Nov. 1 and April 30. Student applications are open through Oct. 6.

The program is also accepting company applications through Sept. 15. The Ohio Third Frontier, a program within the Department of Development, will reimburse companies for two-thirds of an intern’s wages, up to $7,500. Companies can hire up to four interns per round and be reimbursed up to $30,000.
