Jim Ryan Retires as PlayStation Boss in March 2024 | Push Square

Sony has announced PlayStation boss Jim Ryan will be retiring from his role in March 2024. To help with the transition, Hiroki Totoki will assume the position Interim CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment from next month. “Mr. Totoki will work closely with Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and the management team of SIE to help define the next chapter of PlayStation’s future, including the succession of the SIE CEO role,” a press release states.

Jim Ryan’s comment reads: “After 30 years, I have made the decision to retire from SIE in March 2024. I’ve relished the opportunity to have a job I love in a very special company, working with great people and incredible partners. But I’ve found it increasingly difficult to reconcile living in Europe and working in North America.” He then continues: “I will leave having been privileged to work on products that have touched millions of lives across the world; PlayStation will always be part of my life, and I feel more optimistic than ever about the future of SIE. I want to thank Yoshida-san for placing so much trust in me and being an incredibly sensitive and supportive leader.”

Ryan joined Sony in 1994, and worked his way up the company assuming various positions within the European branch of the company, and later Sony as a whole. Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida added: “Jim Ryan has been an inspirational leader throughout his entire period with us, but never more so than in overseeing the launch of PlayStation 5 in the midst of the global COVID pandemic. That extraordinary achievement made by the entire SIE team has been steadily built on and PlayStation 5 is on track to become SIE’s most successful console yet. I’m immensely grateful to Jim for all his achievements.”

With games and studio acquisitions, I know most people on this site are being childish about it but Live Service exclusives are needed to build extra money. Nintendo has Splatoon. Microsoft has Minecraft, Sea of Thieves and, Halo. Sony need there own.

Also, I feel bad about how the media cherry picked a lot of his comments. Like PushSquare talked about the metaverse but not about the fact that in the same piece he said Narrative driven single player games would be the bed rock of PlayStation.

Either way I wish him well. 30 years with any corporation is impressive.
