Unannounced Games from PlayStation Studios Have Been Cancelled

Sony has confirmed that “some” unannounced games in development within PlayStation Studios have been cancelled as a result of the decision to lay off around 900 employees. In a separate article from Hermen Hulst, it’s explained: “We looked at our studios and our portfolio, evaluating projects in various stages of development, and have decided that some of those projects will not move forward.” Hulst continues by saying that the decision to cancel these games “is not a reflection on the talent or passion of team members”. However, “sometimes, great ideas don’t become great games. Sometimes, a project is started with the best intentions before shifts within the market or industry result in a change of plan.” Of course, details of what those cancelled projects are haven’t been shared publicly, but given Hulst’s comments, they could be interpreted to suggest some of the live-service titles Sony has greenlit in the past few years are no more. London Studio, which has been shuttered entirely as a result of today’s layoffs, was working on such a project — it is almost certainly cancelled now. A fantasy-based online co-op game, the Blood & Truth developer was making a game set in London designed to bring “fantastical and magical elements” together.
