Renowned Catholic businessman and Catholic University of America (CUA) alum Luke Burgis has taken a step in fostering a fusion of faith and entrepreneurship through his new initiative, Catholic Entrepreneurship and Design Experience (CEDE). The initiative aims to influence young Catholic entrepreneurs to incorporate their faith into their business decisions and provide them with vital tools and resources for success. CUA’s involvement with the project gives credibility to CEDE, which serves as a fertile ground for future entrepreneurs by offering resources and educational support and aligning with Burgis’ vision to create a new generation of Catholic business leaders who ground their businesses in their faith values. CEDE intends to make its resources globally accessible by launching an online platform. The platform will focus on its mission to nurture faith-based business practices worldwide. The program offers mentorship opportunities, themed workshops and seminars, and networking with potential investors with similar values. The program aspires to foster enterprising spirits within the Church and bridge the gap between faith and entrepreneurship. Students are trained to blend their professional goals with their religious beliefs, cultivating a new generation of faith-driven business leaders. Cultivating faith-based entrepreneurship: a Catholic initiative Burgis, who holds dual roles at the University as an entrepreneur-in-residence and an assistant clinical professor of business, uses his rich industry knowledge and entrepreneurial skills to educate future business professionals. One of the crucial projects of CEDE is an online entrepreneurship summer course for high school students in 2024, aimed at developing an entrepreneurial mindset and creative problem-solving skills rooted in faith. Burgis emphasizes that a ‘Catholic entrepreneur’ is a business person, community builder, and problem-solver. CEDE focuses on experiential learning, breaking away from rigid educational structures, and embracing entrepreneurship’s fluid trajectory. The goal of this initiative is to foster a combination of faith and entrepreneurship and empower young Catholics to implement faith-based wisdom in real-life scenarios. This unique initiative symbolizes Burgis’s vision of a Church that evolves with time while staying firmly connected to its roots. Indeed, this entrepreneurial initiative signals a transformative blend of faith and action, inspiring a generation of young Catholics to shape the future while holding true to their faith values.
