After the release of CoinOps Lgeneds 2 V3 (for the Pi 4) where we were told “this may be the last release for a while) ,AndyBurn, Bluestang, EliasBlizzard and ShoruKen have done it again and ported the awesome CoinOps Legends! – Some great updates and this is deffo the current December 2022 image you want for your Raspberry Pi 3B or 4 right now !!
The video above shows the last version – will showcase new video when the new Punks HQ is up and running (soon!) – Note there may be some slow downs on the Pi3B(+) but will run flawlessly on the Pi4 – The entire image is a new base image, which supports and AUTO DETECTS both 16:9 and 4:3 resolutions, includes more playlists and more games!
Updates
——-
New base image
Supports 16:9 (1080p) and 4:3 resolutions
More playlists: all, favorites, lastplayed, arcades, old school, beat em up, run n gun, fight club, shoot m up, racer, sports, puzzler, consoles
Also works on Pi3B(+), but there are slow down. YMMV
Xinput controllers are recommended. Non-Xinput or Dinput may work but may require some setup.
If you get stuck – send me, or the linux group, a pm on the CoinOPS Discord channel!
Please provide feedback – development is not possible without it
Credit
——-
As always, none of this would be possible without the undying efforts of BritneysPairs, Bluestang,
EliasBlizzard, andyburn, Phulshof, gjsmsmith, Fnord, Caronte, BloodyDrake, PixelFreak, ShoruKen and many, many
others in the CoinOPS project.
YMMV, but please remember this is all free, and written by enthusiasts for the love of the old arcade
Cheers,
andyburn
ISSUES OUTSTANDING
——————-
When using a KB for retrofe navigation, you can get ghost movement.
Use a controller as mentioned below.
Instructions
————
The img file inside the archive can be written to a 64Gb or larger storage device
with tools like Balena Etcher, Win32DiskImager, Raspberry Pi Imager or gnome-disks
It can be written to a fast micro SD card or USB 3 thumb drive. For best results,
SSD, or NVME over USB are recommended.
https://www.balena.io/etcher/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/
IMPORTANT: Make sure the USB port you are using has sufficient power for the device you are using!!
Before BOOT
———-
For wifi, add wpa_supplicant.conf to boot partition.
If you get a blank screen after boot, or have other display issues,
try setting the hdmi mode. Modify the /boot/config.txt.
https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/config_txt.html#hdmi_group
First BOOT
———-
The image will AUTO-EXPAND the partition on first boot to fill the disk.
It will then REBOOT without warning, and then proceed to start CoinOPS.
Sound
——
Sound is over HDMI by default.
run sudo raspi-config over ssh to change stuff.
You can also ssh into the pi to change volume etc.
type alsamixer
adjust volume then Esc, and run
sudo alsactl store
exit
