Co-owner of Nothing Bundt Cake franchises discusses entrepreneurship at Rotary Club of Aiken

Susan See and her husband, James, own and operate two Nothing Bundt Cake franchises – one in Aiken and the other in Evans, Georgia.

A former attorney, See spoke to the Rotary Club of Aiken on Monday at Newberry Hall about what it takes to a successful entrepreneur.

“I’ve tried to narrow it down to three areas that I found were very important to me,” she said. “First off, you’ve got to surround yourself with like-minded people. They’ve got to believe that you can do it, and they’ll guide you to do it.”

The group, in See’s opinion, should include a lawyer and a “good, good CPA (certified public accountant),” she told the Rotarians, along with “a great family and great friends, who encourage you, who love you and who remain positive, even if you have a meltdown.”

Number two, according to See, is to “find a business that you are passionate about, that you believe in with your whole heart and soul.”

For anyone who decides to go the franchise route, it is important to select “a good one that works, one that really trains you and will give you the resources that you need,” See said. “The reason people choose a franchise is that it already should be a successful model. They’ve already figured it all out for you, and you’ve just got to follow it. I’ve seen owners who do not follow it and, unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out as well.”

See’s third recommendation was to “pray, pray and then pray some more.”

She added that she and her husband have “no doubt” in their minds that Nothing Bundt Cakes was a career option that “God sent to us.”

Aiken’s Nothing Bundt Cakes is in the Shoppes at Whiskey.

There are more than 500 Nothing Bundt Cakes bakeries in this country and Canada, See said.
