Contract Position: Marketing & Communications Assistant
Reporting to: Marketing & Communications Firm & the Devour! Management Team
Contract Term: August 14, 2023 – November 4, 2023 (12 weeks)
Contract Fee: $16/hour, P/T (20 hours per week) August 14-October 6/23- 8 weeks
F/T (40 hours per week) October 9-November 3/23- 4 weeks
Devour! seeks a Marketing & Communications Assistant for the 13th edition of the festival, working under the supervision of the Marketing & Communications Firm, who will be primarily responsible for:
- Assist with the implementation, and measurement of a new comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations plan to enhance Devour!’s image and position within the marketplace and the public;
- Promotional writing including media releases, e-newsletters and social media posts;
- Communicating with talent to arrange media interviews, meet and greets, book signings and event scheduling;
- Editing marketing materials such as the online festival guide and website;
- Developing & executing distribution plans for promo materials & maintaining the database of locations/contacts;
- Working with volunteers to coordinate pre-festival promotions and street team activities at key events and locations;
- Developing attendee surveys and working with volunteers to execute interviews during the Festival;
- Monitoring and recording media activity;
- Creating a file with all media clippings and gathering statistics for measurements and final reports;
- And work in collaboration with existing service providers – Spectacle Group (Creative Agency), Space Creatorz (Digital Marketing), threesixfive media (Videography) and festival photographers – to deliver on the overall plan.
Job Requirements:
- 1-3 years of related work and/or communications experience
- Preference will be given to related prior working or volunteering experience with festivals and events
- Preference will be given to applicants who have French as a second language, given this year’s theme

- Dynamic and creative personality
- Computer skills and proficiency across a number of programs – Excel, Word, Google Docs, Powerpoint, etc.
- Must be outgoing, positive and assertive and have excellent spoken and written communication skills
- Ability to manage the competing demands and expectations of multiple stakeholders from sponsors to talent to media to staff and volunteers
- Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Time management skills – the ability to balance a wide range of work environments, from working remotely on one’s own to high-pressure event management with a dedicated team of professionals

Devour! The Food Film Fest is an internationally recognized food film festival that takes place annually in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. The 13th-anniversary edition of Devour! will run from October 23-29, 2023. This year’s spotlight theme will take us into the world of French Cuisine and Culture, including how the roots of Acadian, Cajun, Creole, and French cuisine intersect globally.
