Imagine, if you can, all the ways AI & related emerging technology can be enablers for living the Sermon on the Mount. Struggling?
Now consider the importance of education as adults & collaboration as a society. (Hint there is a lot of democracy in collaboration, no democracy, no partnership, you get the picture). Learning is critical to understanding and removing fear. Knowledge enables action and then. Collaboration can take place. The future of our lives and all of humanity living in a world with emerging technology is more in our hands today than in the last two significant technological revolutions: The Agricultural and Industrial. Those were when, as a society, we left the decision-making more in the hands of politicians who were highly influenced (controlled) by the technology’s creators/inventors and economic owners. (Think especially about the Industrial Revolution) Putting the future of AI and emerging technology into the hands of the greater good requires adult education/awareness & collaboration among all the people, not just a committee and not politicians, most especially authoritarian ones. History has shown authoritarian rulers, disguised in any political flavor, are not benevolent or desire the greater good for the common good.
AI & related emerging technology will have at its core economic considerations. This is key. The economics of AI can be a liberating or confining event. The economic landscape will dramatically change with emerging technology, and we must decide if the change is for the greater good of all humans. The societal phase change is in the hands of humans to drive the greater good for the common good of humanity.
Back to the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus was a Jew, a teacher who fully understood that what he was telling his audience was challenging their way of life and thinking—a challenge to the old covenant and law. Jesus was layout for them a way to live in the world today, and living in that world became known as the Kingdom of God. While at it, read Aristotle and understand what he said about Eudaimonia. See a pattern here?
The emerging technology is challenging our old covenant of work and economics.
