Locally-owned shops eager to see shoppers on “Small Business Saturday” Gov. Kay Ivey has proclaimed Saturday, November 25, as “Small Business Saturday.” The proclamation is designed to highlight small stores, so that people don’t ignore them in favor of big-box national retailers for their Christmas shopping. Action 8 News went to downtown Wetumpka, where shoppers could already be found on Friday. “It’s so important,” Katie Davis, the co-owner of the Shoppes Downtown, said. “Small businesses are the lifeline of the community, and especially here in downtown Wetumpka. We’ve put a lot of effort into our downtown to make it vibrant and alive again, and so we just want to keep that momentum going, and it only comes from support from our community.” Many stores in the area are offering sales and other incentives to bring shoppers in, not just during Small Business Saturday, but throughout the holiday season.
