Proteome Sciences PLC (AIM:PRM), the drug development company, has confirmed the opening of a new laboratory in San Diego, California. The San Diego biotechnology hub, one of the largest in the US, has seen billion-dollar investments and huge funding packages from the government. Proteome believes the opening will remove the need to ship samples internationally and will make its services more attractive to customers. Dr. Ian Pike, president of Proteome Sciences US Inc, said: “I am delighted that we are able to open our doors to serve arguably the world’s largest biotechnology hub in California”. The facility will use “the latest generation Orbitrap Ascend Tribrid mass spectrometry and automated sample preparation platforms” in a bid to extend the services on offer to customers. Before the announcement, the group had experienced a tough 2023, with revenues down year on year, largely due to several projects being postponed. Proteome is up more than 50% in the last year, with shares currently valued at 5.45p.
