Small business Saturday in Calera CALERA, Ala. (WBRC) – Wednesday, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed a proclamation declaring this Saturday as Small Business Saturday in Alabama. City leaders in Calera say this is a great time to help small business owners and shop locally to find personalized and unique gifts. Small Business Saturday is the day after Black Friday, and instead of shopping at big box stores, Calera is encouraging you to focus on shopping small; all downtown merchants have sales and specials going on all day. Small business owners say these shops typically have things you can’t get anywhere else. When you shop locally, you are directly supporting your city’s infrastructure, police, and fire departments. One local business in Calera called ‘Plant’ is eager to see folks this Saturday. “When you come in and shop at Plant, everything is hand selected and it’s a personalized shopping experience. You can’t get that at a box store, you can only get that at small businesses like Plant,” said Mary Catherine Anderson, who is a manager at Plant. You’re also invited to come take pictures with Santa and hear live music as part of small business Saturday in Calera. The festivities will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the new pavilion in downtown Calera with live music from the Calera High School band. At 9:00 a.m., Santa will arrive and visit multiple merchants downtown for pics and Christmas memories. More information can be found on their Facebook page.
