STRIVE Birmingham offering free job training and college courses for careers in healthcare BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Robert Powell, a father of six, recently celebrated a career milestone thanks to the assistance of STRIVE Birmingham. The STRIVE Birmingham program provides job training and career development services to help individuals find higher-paying careers. Before joining STRIVE Birmingham, Powell had never attended a college class. He had been working in physically demanding jobs, but his health was deteriorating. At 40 years old, he decided it was time for a change. He enrolled in the 12-week job training program offered by STRIVE Birmingham and started taking classes at Jeff State to pursue a career in healthcare. Upon completing the program, Powell started receiving job offers, and his inbox was quickly filling up. He landed a better job that not only improved his life but also inspired his children and the students he now works with. Powell is proud to share his story with at-risk teenagers, using his experiences to motivate them to pursue their dreams. According to Quiwintre Frye, the Executive Director of STRIVE Birmingham, their program is designed to help adults pivot their careers and build confidence. They aim to create a chain reaction of success stories that inspire individuals to pursue their goals. STRIVE Birmingham’s first cohort of 2024 will graduate on Friday, and almost a dozen students will celebrate their success and career milestones. To learn more, click here.
