Philip Krim, co-founder of Casper, is advocating for more zero-to-one founders in the climate tech sector, recognizing a gap in entrepreneurial activity relative to other industries. Teaming up with Evan Caron, a former commodity trader, and Sharo Atmeh, a lawyer and portfolio manager, Krim is launching Montauk Climate, an incubator aimed at fostering innovative climate tech startups. Unlike traditional venture funds, Montauk Climate follows a startup studio approach, conceiving and developing businesses internally before bringing in talent to execute the vision. With an initial investment of $8.5 million led by Sheel Tyle of Amplo, Montauk Climate plans to focus on sectors such as energy use in data centers, electrification incentives, weather data aggregation, and insurance, aiming to bridge gaps in the climate tech landscape and capitalize on the growing demand for low-carbon solutions.
