The Witcher 3 next-gen port is arriving next month, free for anyone who owns the game.
In a tweet this afternoon, CD Projekt confirmed that “the next gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming on December 14.” The studio hasn’t revealed any further information on the update yet, but says that it’ll reveal “more details and gameplay” in a stream next week.
It’s cutting it fine, but the release date means that CD Projekt Red will successfully hit its promised target of a Q4 release for the update. Originally promised back in 2020, players have been waiting for a release date throughout 2022. That’s not to say they’ve not been eating good in recent months – while we’ve been patiently waiting for the PS5 and Xbox Series X port, CDPR has unveiled a new Witcher trilogy (to start with The Witcher 4) and The Witcher Remake (being developed externally).
In a press release, CD Projekt confirmed that the update will be available across PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Promising “dozens of visual, performance, and technical enhancements over the original,” the new version will feature ray tracing support, faster loading times, and “a variety of mods integrated into the experience.” On top of that, there’s be “new additional content” inspired by Netflix’s Witcher series.
If you’re purchasing the new version outright. It’ll feature all previously-released content, including all DLC and both game expansions. While the brunt of new content is heading to current-gen platforms, last-gen versions of the game across PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch will also receive an update “featuring numerous additions and improvements.
There’s a lot on the way from Geralt (and V), so here’s a list of upcoming CD Projekt Red games.
